Procedure used to prevent recurrence of fluid (pleural fluid) surrounding the lung by causing scarring of the pleura (the two layers lining the lung cavity)so that they stick to the chest wall. The procedure involves introducing an irritating chemical through a chest tube to surround the lung to create an inflammatory reaction which causes the scarring.
