A form of cancer treatment that involves the use of specialized instruments and techniques. Surgery can be performed by making an incision that allows a trained medical provider (surgeon) to visualize the areas affected by cancer (open-surgery) or can be performed with various specialized instruments and cameras (laparoscopic surgery) or with the use of robotic devices (robotic surgery). While surgery is most often performed to remove an organ with cancer, it can also be used to obtain biopsies to confirm or diagnose cancer.
