Breast Cancer gene: mutations found in some individuals that predispose them to breast and or ovarian cancer and to a lesser extent other cancers. The two major BRCA gene mutations BRCA1 & BRCA2  are inherited from either parent that carries the mutation. The presence of the BRCA gene mutation varies among different racial group, but appears to be higher among persons of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry.
