A form of treatment that uses waves or beams from a high energy source to kill cancer. The energy source used for treating cancer can be a radioactive particle or X-rays. Radiation for cancer can be given externally where a machine is used to guide the beam to the area of the body that is affected (external beam radiation) or it can be inserted into the body using a specific device (brachytherapy).
