(Also called a Mediport or Port)  is a medical device composed of a reservoir attached to a catheter to allow venous access for infusing medications . The reservoir is inserted below the skin on the anterior chest just below the clavicle and the attached catheter is threaded into a large major vessel. The procedure is done as an out-patient procedure under local anesthesia through a small incision made on the chest wall.
